Abstract

The genetical aspects of diffuse familial polyposis of the colon, its pathology and clinical picture are now well known and its principles of treatment are accepted thanks to the work of Lockhart-Mummery, Dukes, Thompson and others. A few years after the first, still acceptable description of the disease (Gripps, 1882). Hanford demonstrated that polyps can undergo carcinomatous transformation in 1890.
