Abstract

The problem of an external radial crack in a thermally stressed unit cell of a fibrous composite with an elastic-perfectly plastic matrix material is considered. By using a modified Dugdale type crack model together with the weight function technique different influences like the mechanical properties of the phases, the cell geometry, the plastic zone developing around the fibre, and the crack length onto the plastic zone length at the crack tip are considered.
