Net Primary Production in Grasslands at Udaipur, India

Part of the book series: Ecological Studies ((ECOLSTUD,volume 11))

Abstract

Although they are not the climatic climax of the region (Bor, 1942), grasslands are found in extensive patches all over India, forming important aspects of terrestrial vegetation. Information on primary production and turnover is available for grassland ecosystems of temperate regions (Odum, 1963; Ovington and Lawrence, 1967; Westlake, 1963), and for grassland communities from the Indo-Gangetic plain (Singh, 1968; Singh and Misra, 1969), but the grasslands of the semiarid regions of Rajasthan have not received much attention (Vyas et al., 1972).
