Summary

Equipping coal fired power plants with desulphurisation plants places a series of special demands on the control and instrumentation, in particular when refitting old power plants.

The new control and instrumentation system has to be interfaced with the already present C and I system. Widely distributed plant areas have to be combined. The operation and monitoring system of the desulphurization plant has to be integrated into the unit operation. The time available to incorporate the desulphurization plant into the unit is very short. The complete scheme has to be executed by the middle of 1988.

The new microelectronic-based C and I systems offer a good basis for realizing these requirements due to their compact construction, ease of chance, the usuage of bus systems and VDU technology.
