Zusammenfassung

Unter dem Begriff der malignen Systemerkrankungen verstehen wir die Neoplasien des lymphoreticulären und myeloischen Gewebes. Besonders in den letzten 10 Jahren wurden die Bemühungen intensiviert, Fragen der Ätiologie, Epidemiologie, histopathologi-schen Klassifikation und klinischen Stadieneinteilung dieser Erkrankungen zu klären, um die Voraussetzungen für verbesserte Behandlungsverfahren, insbesondere auch den adäquaten Einsatz der Strahlentherapie, zu schaffen. Bei den malignen Lymphomen leisteten Arbeiten über die Hodgkinsche Erkrankung Schrittmacherdienste. Sie sind beispielhaft für interdisziplinäres und internationales Teamwork, dokumentiert in einer Reihe von Symposien und Konferenzen, die 1965 in Paris (1966) und Rye/New York (1966), in Ann Arbor (1971), 1972 in Stanford (1973), 1973 in London (1975) und 1976 in San Francisco (1977) abgehalten wurden. Als Ergebnis verfügen wir heute bei der Hodgkinschen Erkrankung über klare Konzepte der histologischen und klinischen Klassifikation und damit über Richtlinien für eine bestmögliche Therapie. Der Fortschritt dokumentiert sich in einer signifikanten Verbesserung der Lebenserwartung und in einem hohen Prozentsatz von Heilungen dieser bis dahin unheilbaren Erkrankung.
