Zusammenfassung
Mit F. Hausdorff beginnt die mengentheoretische Topologie, so wie wir sie heute verstehen. Hausdorff definierte 1914 in seinem Buch „Grundzüge der Mengenlehre“ topologische Räume mit Hilfe der Umgebungsaxiome (a) — (d) aus 2.15 und des T2 -Axioms aus 6.1. In drei Kapiteln seines Buches entwickelt Hausdorff ausgehend von den Umgebungsaxiomen systematisch eine Theorie der topologischen Räume. Er definiert die verschiedenen Punkttypen in einem topologischen Raum: innere Punkte, Randpunkte, Berührungspunkte, Häufungspunkte, und prägt die Begriffe dicht und nirgends dicht. Großen Raum nehmen in seinen Untersuchungen die topologischen Eigenschaften der metrischen Räume ein.
