New Investigations of Motion of an Artificial Satellite about its Center of Mass

Abstract

The last papers dedicated to the analysis of dynamics of the satellite rotational motion are reviewed. The review concerns some old fundamental investigations on which are based some new ones ; the main attention should be paid to the new fundamental investigations. The paper deals with the following questions:

  • the analysis of the passive stabilized effects (gravitational, magnetic effects) ; the role of nonlinear resonance effects in the motion of artificial and natural celestial bodies;

  • some new results on the motion stability theory and their role in the problems of dynamics of the satellite rotational motion ;

  • new aerodynamic effects in the rotation of a satellite (effect of the aerodynamic “propellation”);

  • satellite orientation determination with respect to the measurements.

  • Special attention has been paid to those dynamical effects of rotational motion, the analysis of which promotes the solution of problems of the upper atmosphere physics (its density, its character of module interaction with satellite surface).
