Weltmacht in der Krise? American Decline in der Außenpolitik

Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich mit der Frage, ob die Außenpolitik der USA auf internationaler Ebene an Bedeutung verliert. Der vermeintliche American Decline wird dabei aus einer Struktur- und einer Akteursperspektive erläutert, die respektive die makropolitischen Veränderungen im internationalen System (outside-in) sowie die gegenwärtige Machtgrundlage der USA (inside-out) in den Blick nehmen. Es wird argumentiert, dass die sich wandelnde Position der USA eher eine Anpassung an veränderte innen- und außenpolitische Wahrnehmungen und Realitäten darstellt als einen Niedergang.

    Die untersuchte Datenmenge ist selektiv und lückenhaft, da nicht alle Länder über die Jahre durchgängig befragt und einige wichtige Länder wie etwa der Iran überhaupt nicht in der Umfrage berücksichtigt wurden.
