Abstract

In the quote that preceded the introduction of this book, Tony Blair and Gerhard Schröder emphasise the need to benchmark experiences in the combat against poverty between Britain and Germany. While history already surpassed some of the premises on which Blair and Schröder based their joint essay, the need for comparative assessments of poverty between countries is warranted no less today than in 1999. This provided the first motivation for this study.
