Die Weinproduktion hat in Europa eine lange Tradition. Die Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union (EU) produzieren über 60 % der weltweiten Gesamtproduktion (vgl. Europäische Kommission, 2015). Die bedeutendsten Produktionsländer innerhalb der EU sind Italien, Frankreich und Spanien, welche für rund 80 % der EU-Weinproduktion verantwortlich sind.
