Der „Grad der Chancengleichheit“ ist die treffendste Interpretation dessen, worüber das Erblichkeitsmodell Auskunft geben kann. Gleiche Entwicklungschancen für jedes Individuum wären bei einem genotypischen Varianzanteil von nahe 100 Prozent erreicht. Doch gleiche Entwicklungschancen bedeuten nicht: identische Umwelt für alle. Für das eine Individuum kann förderlich sein, was für das andere hemmend ist.
