Zusammenfassung

Überbrückung von reversiblen Funktionsdefiziten lebenswichtiger Organe ist eines der definierten Ziele der Intensivmedizin. Vor allem die technische Substitution von Ausscheidungsfunktionen der Stoffwechselendprodukte und damit die Aufrechterhaltung der Homöostase kann eine weitere progrediente Verschlechterung beim Einzel- oder Multiorganversagen zumindest zeitlich begrenzt verhindern. Darüber hinaus wird versucht, durch die Entlastung des entsprechenden Organsystems einen kurativen Effekt zu erzielen.
