Abstract

For the biologist examining thin sections, it is very convenient for an electron microscope to have a magnification control adjustable in fine steps throughout its working range, so that an entire cell or organelle can be made completely to fill the photographic plate. The most valuable working range of direct magnification is between about 1000 × and 50,000 ×, followed by 3 × photographic enlargement.
