Abstract
Using a completely cell-free system from rat liver, we have demonstrated the formation of 50–70 nm ATP-dependent transfer vesicles and the transfer of both lipids and proteins to Golgi apparatus immobilized on nitrocellulose. The ATP-dependent transfer is specific for cis, and to a lesser degree, medial Golgi apparatus elements and not exhibited by trans Golgi apparatus elements. Therefore, evidence was sought for a cis-Golgi apparatus “docking” protein capable of specifically binding transition vesicles.
