Zusammenfassung
Die menschliche Lebensspanne, die heute den Neonatologen beschäftigt, hat bis vor kurzem fast ausschließlich das Interesse von Embryologen gefunden. Seitdem die moderne Neonatologie — beginnend in den siebziger Jahren — jedoch intensivmedizinische Methoden anwendet, hat sie aus extrauterin lebensunfähigen Feten Patienten mit guten Lebenschancen gemacht. So wurde in rechtsmedizinischen Lehrbüchern noch Anfang der siebziger Jahre die untere Grenze der Lebensfähigkeit mit der 26.–28. Woche angenommen [Berg 1973]. Selbst Frühgeborene der 32. Woche mit einem Geburtsgewicht um 2 000 g konnten durchaus an „Lebensschwäche“ versterben. Heute jedoch haben selbst Frühgeborene bis herunter zur 22. Woche und 500 g Geburtsgewicht eine Überlebenschance (Abb. 31–1).
