Abstract

This paper aims at demonstrating usefulness of the GPS occultation technique for determining the detailed thermal structure near the tropopause, global distribution of atmospheric gravity wave energy and electron density fluctuations in the ionospheric E layer (sporadic E), which were difficult to observe with other satellite measurements. A future GPS occultation experiment with a Brazilian scientific satellite (EQUARS) is also introduced.
