Zusammenfassung
Die derbe Knochenhaut (Periost) besteht aus 2 Schichten: einer äußeren Faserhaut, dem Stratum fibrosum, und einer inneren zellreicheren Schicht, der Keimschicht oder Stratum generativum, auch als Kambiumschicht bezeichnet. In der Keimschicht finden sich Osteoblasten, die jederzeit und durch verschiedene äußere und innere Reize aktiviert werden können und neuen Knochen bilden. Das Stratum fibrosum ist durch Faserbündel (Sharpey-Fasern) in der Kompakta verankert. Im Periost verlaufen zahlreiche Gefäße, die durch die Volkmann-Kanäle in die Kompakta hineinziehen und sich dort in den Havers-Kanälen verzweigen, um dann in den Knochenmarkraum einzutreten. Das Periost bildet die Grenze zwischen dem Kompartiment Knochen und den umgebenden Weichteilen.
