Operating Systems for Modular Partially Reconfigurable Multiprocessor Systems

  • Chapter
Algorithms, Software and Hardware of Parallel Computers

Abstract

Design and operation aspects of operating systems (OS) for multiprocessor systems modules are connected via communication networks which can be reconfigured by program, are discussed in this chapter. The structure of an OS is analysed, along with some of the features which are due to its expansibility and to the need to organize interactions between multiple processes. Decision-making levels and OS organizational hierarchy, features of scheduling and planning algorithms are discussed as well. Attention is focused on subsystem operational modes, parallel program concepts and the interactions of program branches.
