Zusammenfassung

Betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase (BAD) is a specific dehydrogenase for betaine aldehyde and does not act upon other aliphatic or aromatic aldehydes. It acts at the second stage in the enzymatic conversion of choline to betaine (see also p. 549). The enzyme is a DPN-linked dehydrogenase. Its assay usually involves measuring the reduction of DPN spectrophotometrically though it has also been assayed by measuring the oxidation of betaine aldehyde manometrically1.
