Abstract
The genus Blastobacter was proposed by Zavarzin (1961) for budding bacterial rods he had seen in reduced iron-containing water from a northern Russian forest brook. An enrichment had been set up by adding shreds of filter paper. There was “massive” growth of the Blastobacter bacteria at pH 6.2 and in the zone of reduced iron.
