Abstract
The experiments reported in this article have been performed in collaboration with Dr. Hirao 3 from 1957 to 1959 and with Dr. Goldstein 4 during the academic year 1959–1960. All these investigations were concerned with the striking changes in the excitability of the lateral geniculate body brought about by two seemingly opposite causes, retinal inactivation and continuous retinal illumination. The earlier results have already been published in Archives italiennes de Biologie (1, 2, 3) while the results obtained with Dr. Goldstein are still awaiting publication.
