Zusammenfassung
Die Haut (Integument) stellt die äußere Begrenzung eines Tieres dar; die Gewebe der Haut bilden daher eine Schranke gegenüber den Umwelteinflüssen, müssen aber gleichzeitig einen Kontakt zur Außenwelt aufrechterhalten, so daß die großen Sinnesorgane eine wesentliche Unterstützung und Ergänzung erfahren. Die Haut besitzt durch ihre große Flächenausdehnung in den Körperregionen eine regionale Gliederung (Regionalspezifität), die sich in unterschiedlicher Feinstruktur und der Verschiedenartigkeit ihrer Derivate zeigt und so im Grunde schon eine vergleichende Histologie am Individuum notwendig macht. Im wesentlichen wird darüber hinaus der makroskopische und mikroskopische Aufbau der Haut durch drei Gruppen von Faktoren bestimmt:
