Zusammenfassung

Eine Follikulitis liegt vor, wenn sich ein Entzündungsprozess am Haarorgan manifestiert. Hierbei können nur einzelne Anteile des follikulären Epithels betroffen sein, im Verlauf allerdings auch eine vollständige entzündliche Infiltration des Haarfollikels mit Beteiligung des Talgdrüsenapparates resultieren. Die Auslöser von Follikulitiden sind vielfältig (einige werden in anderen Kapiteln dieses Lehrbuchs behandelt). Mikrorganismen wie Pilze und Bakterien sind häufige Ursachen abszedierender Follikulitiden, andere treten typischerweise nur in bestimmten Lebensabschnitten auf, wie die Akne vulgaris. Viele Follikulitiden heilen spurenlos ab, andere schwere Formen jedoch unter Haarverlust und der Bildung von Narben. Die Gewebeentnahme zur genaueren Dignitätsbestimmung erfolgt meist bei schweren Formen einer Follikulitis, die klinisch nicht sicher eingeordnet werden können. Eine genaue Charakterisierung der Entzündungsreaktion und Diagnose ist dann die Grundlage für eine erfolgreiche Therapie.
