Schriften werden entweder als Bitmap-Fonts oder als Outline-Fonts gespeichert. Bei dern Fontformaten wird unterschieden zwischen Type-1-Fonts, TrueType-Fonts, OpenType-Fonts und Webfonts. Schriftverwaltungsprogramme erleichtern die Arbeit mit Schriften am Computer.
