Abstract
Experimental models were developed in animals to study the problems of transmural transport in vessels. The basic experimental system was the hypoxia model. In this model the exalted permeability was demonstrable within the first 48 h by the appearance in the vessel wall of the intravenously administered colloidal iron. The latter was visualized in histological preparations by the Prussian-blue reaction. In the first hours colloidal iron was seen only in the intima, while at 48 h it appeared in the full width of the vessel wall. During the following ten days the amount of colloidal iron in the vessel wall decreased and finally the transmural transport became normal again.
