Zusammenfassung

Saudi-Arabien gilt für viele als das klassische Beispiel eines ausgeprägten Nomadenlandes. Die geographischen Bedingungen, die historische Entwicklung, besonders die Ausbreitung des Islams mit Hilfe der Beduinen, verstärkten diesen Eindruck. In Kapitel A, Abschnitt 4 bis 6, wird hierüber ausführlich gesprochen. Es sei hier auf die Versuchung hingewiesen, leicht die auch dem arabischen Nomadentum innewohnenden Züge zu übersehen, die nicht in das landläufige Bild vom Wüstensohn passen. Seine Existenz ist auch hier nur in der Symbiose mit Oasenbauern denkbar.
