Zusammenfassung

In Großbritannien wurde der Stempel der Armut dem Leben von mehr als sieben Millionen Familien, in denen sich mehr als vier Millionen Kinder befinden, aufgedrückt.2 Die Muster der Armut haben sich seit Mitte der siebziger Jahre merkbar verändert, geformt durch die zugrundeliegenden ökonomischen, sozialen und politischen Veränderungen. Die Auswirkungen des Lebens auf niedrigem Einkommensniveau sind in den letzten Jahren umfassend dokumentiert worden. Armut prägt das Familienleben sowohl im unmittelbaren Sinne als auch über einen längeren Zeitraum hin. Gleichzeitig schaffen sich die Individuen innerhalb der in Armut lebenden Familien eigene Wege, mit ihrer Armut umzugehen. In diesem Beitrag werfen wir unter Verwendung statistischer Materialien und auf Basis von Fallstudien einen Blick darauf, inwiefern sich familiäre Armut in den letzten Jahren verändert hat, auf die Gründe für diese Veränderungen und auf den Einfluß von Armut auf das Familienleben.
