Zusammenfassung

„Einen Brunnen zu gestalten, ist heute nicht gerade einfach. Es gibt keinen guten Kanon mehr dafür oder irgendeine sinnvolle Verwendung als öffentliche Wasserstelle. Einen Dorfbrunnen als Trinkwasserreservoir für alle braucht man nicht mehr. Die Situation, wo das funktioniert, ist heute am ehesten noch ein öffentliches Schwimmbad, auf das ich mich bei einem anderen Brunnen-Projekt bereits einmal bezogen habe. Die tradierten Brunnentypologien, wie aus einem herbeigeschafften Findling-Stein Wasser rieseln zu lassen, finde ich beispielsweise ganz furchtbar. Als Miniaturausgabe kann man sich so etwas als Luftbefeuchter ins Wohnzimmer stellen — aber bitte nicht auf einen zentralen Platz. Auch irgendwelche lustigen Figuren aus Bronze finde ich als Brunnenszene ziemlich doof und langweilig.“ Michael Kienzer 2010

Abstract

“It is not exactly easy to design a fountain these days. There is no longer any effective formal canon to draw on, and fountains are no longer used in a meaningful way as public water sources. People no longer need a village well as a reservoir of drinking water. The closest thing we have to such a shared water source today is probably a public swimming pool, which I have used as the basis for another fountain project. I find traditional types of fountains quite dreadful, such as the found glacial boulders that are carted to a location and rigged so that water trickles out of them. A miniature version of this type of fountain might function in a living room as a humidifier, but not in a central square, please. And making a fountain scene out of some funny bronze figures I find to be silly and boring.” Michael Kienzer in 2010
