Die Anthropologie ist die Wissenschaft und Lehre vom Menschen. Der Mensch wird dabei in Hinblick auf die Evolutionstheorie von Charles Darwin als biologisches Wesen betrachtet. Ziel der naturwissenschaftlichen Anthropologie — im Gegensatz zur geisteswissenschaftlichen Anthropologie, die sich mehr mit kulturellen und sozialen Fragen auseinandersetzt — ist die Beschreibung, Genese und evolutionsbiologische Interpretation der Verschiedenheit biologischer Merkmale der Hominiden. Die Anthropologen arbeiten sowohl beschreibend als auch analytisch. Die biologische Anthropologie ist eine Teildisziplin der Humanbiologie. Teilgebiete sind die Primatologie, Evolutionstheorie, Paläoanthropologie, Bevölkerungsbiologie, Genetik oder Forensik. Maria Teschler-Nicola hat sich unter anderem auf die prähistorische Populationsbiologie spezialisiert. Die Forscherin ist überdies für ihre Studien zur „Anthropologie im Nationalsozialismus“ bekannt.

Abstract

Anthropology is the academic study of humanity. It looks at humans as biological beings in respect to Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. In contrast to humanities-related anthropology, which mainly deals with social and cultural questions, sciencerelated anthropology includes the description, genesis and evolutionary biological interpretation of the diversity of biological traits in humanoids. Anthropologists work in both descriptive and analytic ways. Biological anthropology, a sub-discipline of human biology, includes the fields of primate study, evolution theory, paleoanthropology, population biology, genetics and forensics. Maria Teschler-Nicola specializes in prehistoric population biology, among other topics. The researcher is also known for her studies on the “Anthropology in National Socialism”.
