Summary

The time aspects of the release of gonadotrophins were studied by means of an extremely pure preparation of tissue from the human hypothalamus.

The test animals used were Wistar rats which had been ovariectomized and blocked with oestrogen-progesterone. The release of FSH reached its maximum at 30 minutes after the administration of the test substance. After 90 minutes the FSH level had returned to its control levels. On the other hand, the LH level rose for 60 minutes and remained high at 120 minutes.

In similar experiments with oestrone sulphate the liberation of FSH and LH followed an identical pattern.
