An Early Report of Free Muscle Grafts in Rabbits

  • Chapter
Muscle Transplantation

Abstract

The first successful free muscle graft was performed in the rat by Studitsky and Bosova in 1960. In the following two decades an increasing number of successful free muscle grafts, particularly in small animals, have been reported from laboratory experiments (Studitsky and Bosova, 1960; Carlson, 1968; Studitsky, 1964; Allbrook, 1975; Carlson and Gutmann, 1976; and Maxwell, 1964), and clinical situations (Thompson, 1971; Hakelius and Stalberg, 1974; Freilinger, 1975; Hakelius, 1974; and Holle et al., 1974).
