Abstract

In chapter 8 the experiences the benchmark railways of the US, Germany, Russia, and Japan have made with efficiency improvement have been described. Chapter 9 will now match these experiences with the inefficiencies diagnosed for Chinese Railways in chapter 7 and will discuss how application of the efficiency improvement measures might improve Chinese Railways’ situation. The suggestions will follow the structure used in the previous chapters and will be grouped in the holding, passenger, freight, and infrastructure fields.
