Zusammenfassung
In the following remarks, we are going to address the current contest among different management philosophies about which is to dominate the ongoing discourse on how to promote modernisation of the management of the state and its administration (Koch 2008). In dealing with this discourse (or competition) we will have to fall back on a reflexive sociology of knowledge/science perspective (notably on the Weberian “adequacy concept”) to figure out the extent to which such a contest or discourse can really contribute to an improvement in our desired knowledge on how to run modernisations effectively. As is known, such a concept takes the view that a specific interplay between exogenous and endogenous factors – notably an interplay between (changing) political demands on the one hand and enduring needs of the academia to find adequate societal support on the other hand – is to be considered the main driver of scientific knowledge creation processes.
