Abstract

This chapter presents an agent-based simulation (ABS) model to analyze the performance of an organization with heterogeneous members. We use a hierarchical landscape model with organizational and personal landscapes and put the difference of skills and values into difference of personal landscapes. Using the model, we show that an organization of heterogeneous members outperforms an organization of homogeneous members in a changing environment, that a changing environment produces organizational inertia, and that homogeneous members make the inertia robust.
