Abstract

Ophthalmoscopic findings observed in chorioretinal atrophy in eyes with pathologic myopia include four kinds of changes (Table 3.1):

  1. 1.

Tessellated fundus, in which the choroidal vessels can be seen through the retina and the optic disc appears crescent shaped

  2. 2.

Yellowish-white and the ill-defined diffuse chorioretinal atrophy

  3. 3.

Grayish-white and well-defined patchy chorioretinal atrophy

  4. 4.

    Macular hemorrhage

Although these changes associated with posterior staphyloma are common, some eyes with pathologic pyopia exhibit no such changes.
