Abstract

Highly oriented microstructure in the (Bi,Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-0 bulk samples has been obtained by modified powder method. Disk-shaped samples consisting of layered grains with the c-axis of the crystal normal to the disk-surface were prepared by applying an intermediate pressing between the sintering heat treatments. Enhancement in a formation rate of the high-Tc phase and a remarkable improvement in the critical current density have been achieved by this method. A high J value up to 700 A/cm2 at 77 K in zero magnetic field was obtained although it decreased rapidly with application of a small magnetic field less than 100 Oe. Results of the magnetization measurements are also presented.
