Abstract
Disaster impacts disproportionately to persons with disability (PWD) compared to able persons and its significant prevalence in least developed countries (LDCs) is a prominent barrier to human security and social cohesion. Disasters also results into new PWDs adding fresh requirements of their rehabilitation, socio-economic reintegration and further strain on human security and social cohesion. This vicious cycle can only be addressed by incorporating special provisions and resources in the disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategy and relevant policies. Though Bangladesh has developed a well-integrated disaster management capacity, but the issues of PWDs are not adequately addressed in the DRR strategy and implementation plan. This hinders poverty reduction, human security and social cohesion.
