Whiplash Injury: Orthopaedic and Rehabilitative Approach to Neck Pathology

  • Conference paper
Whiplash Injuries

Abstract

The term whiplash classically has been applied to a variable set of clinical circumstances where a non-severe rear-end collision is involved. Nowadays [73–75] this definition has changed, because this term also includes other types of accidents with different mechanisms: lateral collisions, frontal ones, as well as falls with direct trauma to the head and hypermovement in one direction of the neck. The common point between these different types of pathologic conditions is that this trauma causes a damage to the cervical soft tissues without engagement of bones.
