Samenvatting

Een dermoïdcyste is een subcutane cyste van ectodermale oorsprong, die ontstaat door inclusie van de huidlijst tijdens de embryonale ontwikkeling. Het is een benigne afwijking. De cyste kan multipele ectodermale structuren (hoorn, talgen zweetklieren, haarfollikels, soms zelfs tanden en nagels) bevatten en in enkele gevallen zelfs mesodermale en endodermale elementen. In de meeste gevallen is er sprake van een congenitaal ontwikkelingsdefect. In enkele gevallen kan echter een dermoïdcyste zich op de kinderleeftijd ontwikkelen. In dit hoofdstuk worden alleen de voor de huisarts zichtbare dermoïdcystes besproken.
