Abstract

As it has already been mentioned (chapter 14.3), disturbances in water homeostasis most frequently occur in small babies and in elderly subjects. Therefore it seems desirable to review some age-related pecularities in the function of the osmoregulatory system prior to getting down to illustrate the most frequently encountered “types” and “patterns” of disturbed water homeostasis in clinical practice and the role of AVP in their development.
