Abstract
Synchrotron self-absorption is a powerful heating mechanism for low energy particles emitting and absorbing synchrotron photons. They are driven towards a thermal distribution in a few cooling times. The inhibition of synchrotron cooling has important consequences for the overall spectrum of the emitted radiation.
