Radar Netwoking in Eastern Europe

  • Chapter
Weather Radar Networking

Summary

In the COMECON countries a common project of Czechoslovakia, Poland and USSR named “Comprehensive Automated System for Meteorological Air Traffic Controll and Solution of the Problems of the National Economy„ was developed in 1985. Up to now the folloving subprojects have been implemented :

  • the system for meteorological air traffic control on runways - KRAMS II (USSR);

  • automated radar meteorological systems - AHMS (CSSR). AKSOPRI (USSR );

  • central meteorological subsystem - CMS (CSSR); inclusive of the automated meteorologist work-stations;

  • system for primary satellite data reception - WIPS and DIGISAT (Consortium of CSSR, GDR and Romania).

Conclusions of this project have provided the conditions for a prompt implementation of the radar network in Eastern Europe on the basis of Soviet two-wave MRL-5 radars. In the present paper a survey is given of weather radar stations which are in operation in Eastern Europe and of those which are planned to be built by 1995.

At the same time, technological prerequisites for automated radar network of COMECON countries as well as for devices of radar automation from the view point of the Regional Centre for Radar and Satellite Meteorology of Socialist Countries at Maý Javorník near Bratislava are given there.
