Low Frequency Radio Recombination Lines Towards Cas A

Radio Recombination Lines: 25 Years of Investigation

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 163))

Abstract

Radio recombination lines (RRL) of carbon towards Cas A has now been observed over the range of frequencies 16.7 – 225 MHz. The obtained results allow to deduce ISM parameters in Perseus arm where the lines originate. Satisfactory agreement with the entire observation data is achieved by two models: the “hot” one with Te=50 K and Ne=0. 15 cm-3 and the “cold” one with Te=18 K and Ne=0.3 cm-3. The negative result in attempts to detect hydrogen RRLs with presence of carbon lines make it possible to define the upper limit of hydrogen ionization rate.
