Abstract

An analytical study is carried out to study the vibration characteristics of laminated composite circular cylindrical panels employing Sanders’ equations of motion for thin shells. Transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia terms are included in the analysis because of their obvious importance in the case of composite panels. The modal forms are assumed to have the axial dependence in the form of a simple Fourier series. Various aspects studied here involve the effects of change in geometrical parameters of the panel and variation in the directions of orthotropy, etc., on frequencies, mode shapes, modal forces and moments. Analytical results for panels with freely-supported as well as clamped-free curved edges are shown to agree very well with some previous results for the isotropic case.
