Summary
The legume-Rhizobium symbiosis is subject to genetic interactions which result in large and unpredictable effects on nitrogen fixation. This paper discusses possible strategies to improve the symbiosis either generally, through the plant, or specifically, through selection for specific adaptation between restricted symbionts.
