Abstract
Unlike other US coastal states, Louisiana’s coastal zone is not rimmed by attractive beaches, cliffs or bluffs. More than 3.2 million ha of marsh and intermingled water surfaces dominate the landscape. Forty-one percent of The United States’ coastal marshes and 25% of the country’s wetlands are in Louisiana. It is one of the world’s largest and most biologically productive wetlands. This biological resource is a bonanza of aquatic and avian wildlife (Figure 1). As an outdoor resource, the aquatic lowlands serve as a focal point for family-oriented activity.
