Abstract

Since the discovery of high temperature superconductivity in doped La 2 CuO 4 [1] and in YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 [2], a large amount of work has been carried out in order to determine the essential properties of these compounds. See, for example, a recently published volume, which summarizes the physical properties of the high temperature superconductors [3]. From the beginning, the powerful experimental technique of photoemission spectroscopy has been utilized to probe the electronic structure of these materials.
