Abstract

A brief review of nuclear giant resonances is given, beginning with the landmark paper of Goldhaber and Teller. The properties of the giant dipole resonance are surveyed, giant resonances of other multipolarities are discussed, and certain new developments and some of their implications for future research are noted.

Work Performed under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Energy at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under contract number W-7405-ENG-48.
