Abstract

There is now much evidence1 that bereavement can have detrimental effects on both physical and mental health. On the other hand it can also be an opportunity for personal growth and maturation. The value of the right help given at the right time to those who are at risk has been established in several well-conducted studies of bereavement counselling2 and the members of the Primary Care Team are often in a position to provide this help.
