Experimental Studies of Atomic Motions in Liquid Metals

  • Chapter
Amorphous and Liquid Materials

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 118))

Abstract

Much of our present knowledge on single particle motion in liquid metals was collected over the last two decades /1/. Recent progress mainly came through computer simulations /2,3/ and the development of kinetic theories /4,5/. On the experimental side besides tracer methods and NMR techniques the usefullness of neutron scattering techniques became aware. Whereas the former techniques yield information on the Brownian limit of diffusion, inelastic scattering of slow neutrons in principle can explore the entire time and space range of atomic motions.
